The heart of this island is its end grain butcher block top, a richly textured surface that tells a story of reclaimed wood, each knot and grain whispering history. Its robust 1 1/2" square tube steel and angle steel base, forged with precision, grounds the piece in industrial strength while maintaining a sleek, modern silhouette. This is a kitchen island built to withstand the chaos of daily life, yet refined enough to anchor your space with sophistication.
Designed for connection, the island features an 8" overhang on one side, inviting casual gatherings—think morning coffee shared with a friend or late-night conversations over a glass of wine. Two spacious drawers glide smoothly, offering a home for your cherished kitchen tools, while the open shelf below beckons with space for cookbooks, artisanal ceramics, or a basket of fresh produce. Every detail is purposeful, from the tactile warmth of the wood to the cool, grounded steel frame.
Sustainability is woven into its core. The reclaimed materials honor the past while building toward a future where beauty and responsibility coexist. This isn’t just a kitchen island; it’s a gathering place, a workspace, a canvas for your culinary creations. It’s where memories are made—where flour-dusted hands knead dough, where laughter spills over shared meals, where your kitchen becomes the soul of your home.

Workshop Detroit FAQ
Where are our kitchen islands made?
All Workshop Detroit kitchen islands are handcrafted at our fabrication shop in Detroit, Michigan by our small team of skilled craftsmen. Every table is built to order with close attention to detail, durability, and finish.
What materials do you use for your kitchen islands?
We specialize in reclaimed, salvaged and sustainably sourced solid wood, including reclaimed pine, reclaimed oak, and select hardwoods depending on the design. Each islandtop is paired with heavy-duty steel or solid wood bases designed for long-term stability.
Will my islandtop look exactly like the photos?
No two islands are exactly alike. Because we use real wood—often reclaimed—natural variations in grain, knots, and color are expected and celebrated. Your table will be similar in style and finish, but uniquely yours.
Can I customize the size or finish?
Yes. Most of our kitchen islands can be customized by size, wood species, finish color, and base style. If you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for, contact us and we’ll help design an island that fits your space perfectly.
How long does it take to receive my kitchen island?
Because our tables are made to order, typical lead times range from 8–10 weeks depending on the design and current production schedule. We’ll provide an estimated timeline when your order is placed and keep you updated along the way.
Do you offer white glove delivery or in-home setup?
Yes. We offer in-home delivery and set up is available for many locations and includes delivery, placement, and packaging removal.
Are your kitchen islands durable enough for everyday use?
Absolutely. Our tables are built for daily life—family meals, dinner parties, work-from-home use, and everything in between. We use commercial-grade finishes that protect against spills, heat, and normal wear. Our kitchen islands are built to last for generations.
How do I care for and clean my kitchen island?
Routine care is simple. Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners. No Bleach. Mild soap only. Coasters and placemats are recommended for added protection, as with any natural wood surface.
What if my kitchen island arrives damaged?
We stand behind our work. If your island arrives with shipping damage, contact us immediately and we’ll make it right—whether that means repair, replacement, or another solution.
